The Big 4 Birthday
Thank to you all of our friend's for making the day a great memory. We had a blast with the pinata, the pillow sack races and hanging out playing.

Make'n The Cake
Both Tom and I love birthdays and feel like they really are a big deal.
Hence, The Monkey's Birthday Party.
The countdown and preparations have began.
He wants a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
He did his part cleaning up.

Little Bit of Normalcy
This is The Monkey waiting and waiting for the "Recycling Man" and "Cardboard Man" to come. He waits patiently every Monday for hours. He does the same on Tuesdays and Fridays for the trash men "Buddy Guy" and "Crazy Man". The guys love him. They honk their horns, give him high fives. They have even paid him for helping ($1.00 a couple of times) and given him a little trash truck of his own. Very sweet for both sides.
This is our main walk to Downtown and to The Monkey's school. It's been our main walkway for about 10 years now. It doesn't matter what season it is, there is always something lovely about it.

Up and Down and All Around
Time seems to be moving in a weird way.
Today just seemed to drag.
No energy to do anything, except be there for The Monkey and The Bubby.
We're just talking and then sitting quietly. Holding each other.
Wondering. Wondering.
A little work here, a little work there.
Angry. Sad. Laughing. Crying.
Moving through and growing.
We miss you Dad.

Tom's dad passed away last night. We're just kind of wiped out right now. As Tom said, "I think that is about as much stress as I can handle in one day."
Thank you to everyone who have emailed us. We appreciate it so much.
Tom's sickness is better and that shot for my hand has made about 90% of the pain go away.
Yea!
Talk to you soon.

Maybe Yesterday Was A Little Harsh or Not...Or...It Just Was ???
I keep thinking about how difficult the last couple of weeks have been (and with what is coming) and have been debating on whether to post it or not. Tom and I feel that this blog needs to be positive, maybe funny but mostly transparent. We are real people in this world trying to better our lives and our son's lives.
So, I guess things can't always smell like roses.
Tom continues to be the same. Since he doesn't like to go to sleep early, I'm trying to get him to sleep more in the morning and take a nap during the day. It's working (a little).
Then there is my little problem, all though today ended up well. Back on January 1st, I tore two ligaments in my right wrist. I really didn't know the severity of it because I have seemed to have this problem of my wrist "popping out" for about 12 years (from witnessing to sculpting clay). But this last time it was different, I couldn't move it for a few days.
Tom worked his magic as usual. I could move it again but it just wasn't right. Well, it turns out that I'll most likely need surgery, but for now, I received a steroid shot to help me get through my daily tasks.
That was yesterday. It hurt so bad throughout the day and last night.
Today it has improved a lot, I hardly notice it's there. I have to remind myself to be careful because the ligaments are still weak. I go back to the doctor in late April to see what is next.
It stresses me out. I do everything with my hands. Holding The Monkey, computer work, designing, photography, dyeing, knitting, household duties and not mention my passions, painting and sculpting. If I lost any type of control in my hand, oh man, I just don't know.
And finally, Tom's dad is dying. He has been struggling with cancer for about 8 years now and it's finally taken it toll. We found out tonight that he probably has only a couple of weeks left (tumors through out his brain and up and down his spinal cord). There are so many issues involved with this one. Tom and he have always had a stained relationship even to this day. Tom has always remained open but we feel his dad is just so scared and has such intimacy issues, that there is only so much we can do.
But on the up side, we keep moving forward. It's all we can do. I am so thankful for what we have, including each other.
We really are lucky.

Just Shoot Us...And Make Glue
Gosh, we are not the whippersnappers we used to be.
Tom is hanging in there with the consumption, only doing things that he has to do. He is still coughing quite a bit and feels like he got the sh*! beat out of him. We are slowly becoming more humble to fact that it takes both of us longer to get better. He doesn't go back to his job at the hospital until after Monday, so that's good. The Monkey is having a hard time understanding how sick DA is. He sees DA home and just wants to play. It's heartbreaking and craziness.
Just wait it only gets better...

It's Been Going Around...And Coming Back...Again and Again
Tom has been sick with a cough.
Tom has been sick since late January.
It came, then left, then came and now it won't leave. It's lingering. He's in bed right now, with a fever, moaning and groaning.
From what I've been hearing around town and reading on blogs, this one is a doozie.
It won't go away.
The Monkey had something like it last month for about a 10 days. The Bubby and I have seem to stay clear of it.
He's gonna stay down for a couple days and take it easy.
Get better Honeybunny.

This is pretty funny...why?...because it's true.
But I think they forgot the white guy over bite (here and here).

OK, I know we are in California but the weather has been incredible this last week. Not only is it beautiful but The Monkey is so much happier to be able to play outside for hours and wear his shorts. We found The Bubby's old Mars and Beyond tent and set it up for him. As you can see, he is digging it. Tom and I are digging it too, for many many reasons. You parents know what we mean.
