From March 8th to the 15th, Tom went to New York to the children's apparel trade show ENK Children's Club. This time, we were invited to join sixteen of California's top Children's designers with the California Kid's Collective (Petunia Pickle Bottom, Tea, Neige, Glug Baby, Fleurville and ExtraSmall, just to name a few). This gives us a lot of exposure on the east coast which we would not otherwise get. New York is not California and for Tom he would enjoy standing on the street, having a slice of pizza and a soda for$2.50 and the New York show that goes with it for free. He finds New York amazing and admires the diversity and vitality. See you in August New York.

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Dia Duit and Happy Saint Patrick's Day To All! I think Tom and I are going to share a four pack of Guinness and call it a night. It's been a busy couple of weeks (the reason for the lack of posts). I hope our Irish ancestors won't take offense to our lack of celebration and Guinness intake. We'll be posting on what has been going on in the next few days.Slainte!

A Very Busy March Starting With Pig Day...Part III
This month has been one of our busiest with many different events happening. The first was Pig Day on March 3rd at the Davis Farmers Market, a celebration of National Pig Day (who knew) and the start of spring. This year, Pig Day kicked off our third year of selling our kid's t-shirts to the public. Every Saturday, weather permitting, we get up and head over to the market to sell our shirts. We feel like we have become part of a special community of farmers, ranchers, musicians and crafters. We also are fortunate enough to print the market's souvenir shirts for them. Nina and Tom the Official Screen-printer of the Davis Farmers Market (who knew).

Tour of California in Our Little Town
Yesterday, the Tour of California came whizzing through our little town of Davis. It was a nice break to go outside and watch some of the world's finest cyclists race down B Street. For us, cycling has an important history. When Tom and I met, almost 12 years ago, he was an American pro and I worked behind the counter at a coffee house in Los Angeles. While training in the local mountains, "Hot Cyclist Guy" used to come in and order a cappuccino before his rides and I would gladly make it for him. The rest of the story is like a tour it's self, long, hard and challenging. We are not sure what stage we are at yet or who has the yellow jersey but realize we have a ways to go. (I think I'm kicking his ass.)

The Last 36 Hours
We found out late Friday that the March 2007 Parents magazine came out. It is their "Green Issue" and one of our 100% organic cotton colored shirts (the "Green" one ) is on page 27. Amazing. We couldn't be more excited or happy. It is such an incredible thing to see something that came from our little workshop be in a major American magazine. People at our local farmers' market yesterday were coming by and saying they saw us in Parents and how great that is. What was funny, was at that point, we hadn't seen it yet. Also, this last week, we were asked to be a part of the California Kids Collective, at the ENK Children's Club trade show in New York next month. This means, we will be selling along with Fleurville, Petunia Pickle Bottom, Paulina Quintana and Tea Collection, to name a few. We moving up.

The party is not over yet. He's gonna keep it up until Sunday night. Do you like his shirt? We designed and made it for the special day.

Working Away
We've been super busy working away at all aspects of life. But the latest, is getting our 100% organic cotton colored t-shirts off the ground. We are now offering these shirts in our kid's Color Theory designs and Basics. It's been quite a tasking finding just the right colors. They couldn't be too light, like all the other organic shirts out there using the standard line up of pink, light blue and maybe a pale yellow or green, or too cutesie. Our colors are bold and orignial that both boys and girls could wear (some boys like pink). Even more important, these cool looking shirts are eco-friendly too.
Here is some info about them from our Customer Care page:
nina and tom's 100% organic cotton t-shirts are hand-dyed using the lowest impact dyes available. The shirts themselves are made of 100% U.S. grown organic cotton, sewn in Los Angeles, CA and then sent to us. We then, dye and print the shirts ourselves in our workshop. In other words, keeping the whole process in the United States
When you purchase organic cotton clothing, you are supporting a pesticide free environment not only for the planet but for humans and other living creatures, as well. Cotton is 3% of the worlds agriculture but requires 27% of pesticides use. This occurs during the cotton cultivation process. According to the National Cancer Institute, it is suspected of causing 10,000 deaths a year in the U.S.. Cotton is grown for much more than fabric. Cottonseed oil is used a lot in commercial food preparation and cottonseed is a major component in silage, a mixture most livestock eat. So our meats, unless grass fed, are not necessarily untouched. So, we like to think that our organic t-shirts are not just t-shirts, they truely are something special.
We will be adding baby onesies and adults to the site soon.

Fix Car With Screwdriver
This is The Monkey working on our friend's car yesterday. Notice how careful he is not to get dirty. I'm just surprised that he didn't try fixing the car with Tom's special butter knife, aka "The Knife That Fixes Everything". But that is another story. Alas, Monkey was left to try and fix the car with a screwdriver, with Tom making sure he didn't puncture the radiator.

AERRRR
We heard The Monkey say this (speaking about himself) recently one night while he was sound asleep,
"MONKEY!
PIRATE!
AEERRRR!"
He received a wooden pirate sword, eye patch and a scarf with skulls and cross bones on it for Chirstmas. He loves it.
